The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has curated a national level scheme, Support for Marginalised Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise (SMILE), which has two scheme; Comprehensive Rehabilitation for Welfare of Transgender Persons and Comprehensive Rehabilitation for persons Engaged in the Act of Begging. This umbrella initiative would focus on the various facets of upliftment for transgender people and people who are engaged in the act of begging. The scheme will focus majorly on rehabilitation, provision of medical facilities, counselling, education, skill development, economic linkages along with many other provisions with the support of the State governments/UTs/Locals, Urban Bodies, Voluntary Organisations, Community Based Organisations (CBOs), institutions and others. The MSJE website also gives information about the issuing of Transgender Certificate and ID, skill training, composite medical health and the provision of Garima Grah. Garima Grah are shelter homes especially designed for the holistic rehabilitation of transgender individuals. They have been geotagged and any transgender person can access the exact location of the shelter home by clicking on the map. Trangender people holding a transgender certificate and ID issued by the National Transgender Portal can access these shelter homes.
