Less than half funds utilised for POSHAN Abhiyaan

Holistic nutrition is the main focus of the POSHAN Abhiyaan program. The Indian government started the POSHAN Abhiyaan program in 2018 with the intention of tackling the national issue of malnutrition. Previously, it was called the National Nutrition Mission. The program’s objective is to enhance the nutritional status of young children (ages 0–6), teenage females, expectant mothers, and breastfeeding mothers. According to the NITI Aayog study, the program has not even used half of the funds that were allotted to it. The situation is still grave despite government initiatives like the POSHAN Abhiyaan project to promote nutrition and achieve food security. Additionally, the Harvard School of Public Health found that the state has fallen from 20th to 25th place in the last five years after analysing two successive National Family Health Surveys.
