The New India Literacy Programme (NILP) is a centrally sponsored scheme that aims to enhance literacy and education among citizens aged 15 years and above across India. Approved for implementation during the fiscal years 2022–2027, the programme aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and focuses on comprehensive adult education. The key components of the programme are Foundational Literacy and Numeracy, Critical Life Skills, Vocational Skills Development, Basic Education, and Continuing Education. As per the Press Information Bureau, the estimated total outlay for the program is ₹1,037.90 crore for the period 2022–2027, with the central government contributing ₹700 crore and states providing ₹337.90 crore.
