PM-KISAN is a central sector program designed to help landholding farmers meet their financial requirements, which are subjected to certain limitations. The Telangana government’s Rythu Bandhu, 2018, which distributed Rs. 10,000 per acre in a single year, served as the model for the initiative. Through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) method, the PM-KISAN provides a monetary benefit of Rs. 6000/-per year (per family instead of per acre), which is deposited into the bank accounts of farmers’ families nationwide in three equal four-monthly payments. To date, over 11 crore farmers have benefited from Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) in the form of various installments totaling Rs. 2.81 lakh crores.
