Status of POCSO Cases & Crime Against Children: REPORT

Due to the rising prevalence of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and pornography throughout time, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO) went into force on November 14, 2012, with the explicit goal of shielding children from these crimes. In 2020, child rape (Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act and Section 376 of the IPC) accounted for about 60% of all cases filed under POCSO. In comparison to the 55% in 2019, this number has increased by 5%. Furthermore, women made up 99 percent of the victims in all POCSO cases that were reported in 2020.
