The National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC) was established in January 1997 as a non-profit organisation under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The aim of NSKFDC is to empower the Manual Scavengers, Safai Karamcharis, and their dependents to overcome their traditional occupation, depressed social condition, and poverty. Ms. Tatiboyina Ankamma, a woman from the Yanadi tribal community in Andhra Pradesh, transformed her life through the NSKFDC’s Swachchhta Udhyami Yojana by acquiring a waste collection vehicle worth Rs 8.48 lakhs, now earning a steady monthly income of ₹10,000 after loan repayments.
