Sandeep Kumar was diagnosed Ewing Sarcoma which is a form of bone cancer, at the tender age of 12. A resident of Kathaicha, a small village in Sant Kabir Nagar District, in Uttar Pradesh, he had experienced difficulties in accessing specialised healthcare in his village. Residents in the village had to often travel an average of 65 kilometers to the nearest city of Gorakhpur for specialised treatment. Even after 17 years of his recovery, on seeing no improvement in healthcare, he founded DigiSwasthya, a non-profit organisation that operates 5 telemedicine centres, conducts awareness campaigns, and establishes referral systems to reach the nation’s remotest areas.
