The National Family Health Surveys (NFHS) conducted by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in India have been instrumental in providing reliable data to monitor the progress of flagship programs and achieve the goals of the National Health Policy. The latest survey, NFHS-S, conducted from 2019 to 2021, has gathered crucial information on reproductive and child health, family planning, health insurance, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, and non-communicable diseases. This comprehensive compendium of fact sheets covers India and 14 states/union territories, facilitating a thorough assessment of government programs and the progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
NFHS has continually expanded its scope to meet the data requirements of the government, non-governmental entities, and researchers in the field of population and health. The modular approach adopted in NFHS-S enables the estimation of key indicators at the state/union territory level, with a subset of these indicators available at the district level. This compendium of fact sheets for Phase-II of NFHS-S presents findings for India and 14 states/union territories, including district-level estimates for major indicators. The information contained within these fact sheets will aid in making informed policy decisions.
The successful execution of a large-scale survey like NFHS-5 at the national level and in the 14 Phase-II states/union territories is attributed to the extensive support and involvement of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), the Technical and Administrative Committees, USAID, and ICF. The collaboration of these stakeholders has been crucial in accomplishing this ambitious task. This article acknowledges their support and emphasizes the significance of utilizing this critical information for shaping effective policies.
