India’s once booming public health system has taken a hit as it has been plagued by a plethora of problems, that find their roots in the lack of awareness amongst common masses, about important things such as reproductive health and breastfeeding practices. The access to healthcare in the form of availability, supply and utilisation is an important determinant of access. The absence of human power in terms of adequately trained personnel, equitably employed also determines a patients access to care. Access to healthcare is also subject to how many can afford it. The accountability held by medical professionals for the health of their clients is of paramount importance as it influences the outcomes of procedures. Communication prowess is now also seen as a skill that needs to be given high priority amongst public health professionals.
