Centre Approves Scheme to Provide Drones and Upskill Women SHGs in Agriculture

The Union Cabinet has recently approved the budget for the scheme to provide drones and drone pilot training to women Self Help Groups. The scheme intends to empower SHGs and usher in the era of new technologies in the agricultural sector. Clusters, where drones are economically feasible, will be identified along with 15, 000 progressive SHGs in different states, in the identified clusters, will be selected and given these drones. Central Financial Assistance at 80% of the financial cost of the drone and accessories/ancillaries up to Rs 8 Lakh will be provided to the women SHGs for the purchase of drones. One well-qualified member of the SHG, who is above 18 years of age will be given a mandatory 15-day training, consisting of a mandatory 5-day drone pilot training and an additional 10 days training for agricultural-specific training, such as nutrient and pesticide application. Another family member or SHG member, selected by the State Rural Livelihood Mission,  will be trained in repairs and technical work. This training will come in a package with the purchase of the drone. The leading fertilizer companies will act as a bridge between the SHG and the drone companies if they face issues with repair and maintenance.
