A tribal man called Krushna Ataka from Odisha’s Rayagada district cracked NEET at the age of 33. He is married and has two children. He enrolled himself in a government medical college with his efforts and public support. While he completed his 12th exam in 2008, he could not go on with his studies due to his family’s impoverished situation. He went to Kerala to work as a labourer in brick kiln and returned to his village in 2012 to help with family’s farm. During lockdown he decided to pursue his dreams and started to garner free study material from virtual media. He bought a few second hand books for NCERT and gave hand for farm work in morning. A resident in his village supported him with Rs. 3,80,000 and later the district also got involved. Impressed by Ataka’s feat, the Odisha government on Friday announced that it would bear the entire expense of his education in the medical college. The district of Rayagada has transfered Rs. 1 LAKH to his account and an annual stipend of Rs. 70,000 was promised to him.
