When it comes to education in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, rural areas a not viewed as pioneers but Green Valley School recognised the need for such courses to equip students with skills relevant in the 21st century and integrated a STEM program, to their curriculum. The school also involved parents of the students to understand their point of views and partnered with experts from other universities to arrange lectures, resources and relevant field experiences. They conducted specialised teacher training to effectively deliver STEM courses, especially hands on and enquiry based learning approaches. The curriculum was also restructured to include STEM in an interdisciplinary approach. One of the most crucial parts of this project was to receive funding and the school reached out to stakeholders for grants that were specifically to encourage STEM education in rural schools.
Maria, a student of Green Valley was uncertain about her future but with her passion for technology and coding, she developed an app that caught the eye of a tech company at a school exhibition.
